and explore a canyon full of fossils!

The Dolomites are widely regarded as being among the most attractive mountain landscapes in the world, and in 2009, the World Heritage Committee officially designated the Dolomite Mountains as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On this fantastic trip, you'll discover why for yourself!

And while being on vacation is the key, you (and your kids) just might learn something too!
From ropes work used in climbing or via ferrata, to geology when you're exploring the fossilized marine life found in the dolomitic rock formations, to WWI history, and to the multicultural mosaic of Italian, Austrian, and Ladin cultures that merge here in these mountains.

We know that not everyone has the same idea of what makes a great vacation –
that's why we provide options on our family trips.

  • Don't want to bike ride? We'll go for a hike!
  • Ready for an adventure? We'll learn to rock climb or climb a via ferrata!
  • More of a foodie family? We'll meet farm animals and learn how to make
    a few traditional dishes!
  • Need a break from the kids? We'll create a special evening (or day!) just for you!

What's better? This itinerary is customizable for all age range – from young children to teens and pre-teens to adult. Just let us know a little about your family we'll make sure every activity is age-appropriate, safe, and, best of all, FUN!

Day 2 ~ Hiking, Biking, Rock Climbing or Via Ferrata in Alta Badia
Choose from a variety of activities! Take an easy hike from your hotel through meadows on the valley floor, take a chair lift above Alta Badia or hike along the ridges overlooking the valley with astounding views – just choose how easy or challenging a trail you prefer! Enjoy an educational geological tour on the Gardena Pass or at the Gardenaccia fossil reef, and learn more of the fascinating dolomitic rock that makes up these mountains. Craving a more vertical challenge?
Try your hand at rock climbing or at via ferrata (iron path) – hiking routes with fixed "protection" originally built to aid the movements of alpine military units during the WWI. Those who prefer to stay at lower elevations can hop back on their bikes and continue exploring Alta Badia.

Close to the village of Redagno lies a breathtaking and even mystical place: Bletterbach Canyon, the "Grand Canyon" of South Tyrol. This canyon is 8 kilometres (5 miles) long and is as deep as 400m (1,312') in places; it exposes the geological development of the area like a "stone-turned book of geology." Enjoy a hiking tour of the Geoparc Bletterbach, which is included in the Dolomites recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can find fossilized imprints of plants, shells, amphibians, and many other traces of prehistoric times. If time permits, you'll also visit the Geoparc's museum.

After your exploration, you'll feast on lunch at the exclusive hotel's mountain cottage situated at 1,800m (almost 6,000'), which boasts a menu full of delicious traditional cuisine. Next you'll take a one hour hike through meadows and pine forests back to the hotel where you can relax by the swimming pool or enjoy the sauna. Dine on a farewell dinner in the 500-year old gothic stube
(a traditionally wooden room in a building where the stove is located and meals are prepared).
